This is one of Kristin Hannah's older books - published 23 years ago. Lately she has written more historical fiction stories, while her older books are more domestic based ones. She does a good job with both and I enjoyed this story, even though it had some issues - that I don't want to mention because of spoilers. Overall though an uplifting story of family and love.

Edited to add that today in my FB memories it popped up that I was reading Firefly Lane - my first Kristin Hannah book - 14 years ago! Sheโ€™s been in and out of my life for a while now.

๐—”๐—ก๐—š๐—˜๐—Ÿ ๐—™๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—Ÿ๐—ฆ ๐—ฏ๐˜† ๐—ž๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—›๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ต offers a poignant exploration of love, family, and identity amidst the stunning backdrop of the Northern Cascade Mountains. Liam and Mike's seemingly perfect marriage is shattered by a tragic accident, revealing hidden secrets and pasts. While the premise is intriguing, the execution feels somewhat lacking compared to Hannah's more recent works. Despite its mild far-fetched elements, Hannah manages to keep the story grounded and relatable. The focus on familial bonds and personal growth is characteristic of Hannah's storytelling. However, certain aspects, such as a nine year old acting much younger than that and Liam's blind devotion, felt unrealistic. Additionally, the heavy emphasis on Christianity may not appeal to all readers. Overall, ๐—”๐—ก๐—š๐—˜๐—Ÿ ๐—™๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—Ÿ๐—ฆ delivers a compelling narrative, albeit falling short of Hannah's usual standards, making it a decent but not standout read.

From the book jacket: When Mikaela Campbell, beloved wife and mother, falls into a coma, it is up to her husband, Liam, to hold the family together and care for their grieving, frightened children. Doctors tell Liam not to expect a recovery, but he believes that love can accomplish what medical science cannot.

My reactions
I think this was the first time Hannah chose to put a character into a coma, though Iโ€™m not certain. The plot focuses on the difficulties the family has coping with their wife / motherโ€™s condition, and the โ€œtwistโ€ comes from the discovery of Mikaelaโ€™s secret past โ€“ a previous marriage to a movie star. Yada Yada Yada.

I feel like my reviews are all starting to sound the same โ€ฆ probably because this is my third book by Hannah in the last week, and they all follow a predictable formula. This time I actually read the book rather than listened to an audio version. Iโ€™ve been helping a friend who had major surgery and this was a easy read, that generally held my attention and helped fill the many hours of sitting in waiting rooms. Iโ€™ll give her credit (and an extra star) for that.

While You Were Sleeping meets Win a date with Tad Hamilton. Small town girl has a history with a famous (total selfabsorbed) actor, but has since married a wonderful man and had a family. This book is typical rom com material. Should be a hallmark movie. Cute, Sweet, good beach read!
