GIRLLL WHY ARE THESE TWO BOOKS COMBINED ON GOODREADS. interpeter of maladies is 5/5 im partial bc im bengali and that shit made me cry. namesake 3/5 tbh it was good but felt less powerful, more standard in immigrant narrative

Jhumpa Lahiri's writing style is so beautiful and fluid I loved reading it. Her descriptions of the setting were especially enjoyable, I felt like I was right there in the room. I read this in an academic setting, but would recommend it to anyone. The stories are the perfect lengths to get through in one sitting.

When people get separated from their own people at their own will they suffer from a different line of maladies. Which is interpreted in Jhumpa Lahiri's writings with a homesick tone of belonging and not belonging to anywhere. This book is a short story collection of stories of Bengali family's migration to America and their adaptation. And every story in this book is brilliant.
