I really enjoyed this book! The story was nicely paced and the world was well-written and developed. I also was fond of the way that the different storylines of characters came together. The book itself was immersive and entertaining to read. However, the way that the characters talked to each other and how their relationship developed fell a bit flat in my opinion. To me, it felt as if the relationship was a bit one-sided and Rufus was mostly helping Mateo solve his problems. I also felt that using two young teenagers in this scenario was a missed chance. The world and the Death-Cast system is so intriguing and I really would have liked to see that used in situations with higher stakes. Another novel set in the same universe or even a collection of short stories would have been amazing. I think it takes so much creativity to come up with a system like this, but I also feel that some questions were left unanswered (what happens if you don't have a phone?). The writing wasn't particularly good, but I nevertheless appreciated this book.

I get the sense that this is again one of those books that would translate well on screen.

The premise was interesting, but I couldn’t get into it. The characters were extremely stereotypical, but I neither disliked or liked any of them. Sure maybe the point of this is to shed a light on time and how our time on Earth is never guaranteed and we should live our life to the fullest, I just couldn’t care.

I do think that this book may resonate with some, it just was an okay read for me.

You would think that because this book has a spoiler as a title, it would be less of a heartbreak..but boy would you be wrong. I love how realistic this books was with such a big fantasy as its core (pretty much the framework of Adam Silvera's books). It's pretty awesome how we get to see glimpses of all the minor character's life. Also how the tiniest of tiny things bind all of us together, like how me deciding what I want for breakfast today could potentially, somehow, in some fundamental way lead someone totally unrelated to me finding their soulmate, totally captivates me. And that was shown soo beautifully and tragically in this book.
To people who are looking into reading this book, I would say, do it, do it because we all need a reminder that we aren't immortal and we will never be...it's good to get a punch of reality.
And lastly, other than the book itself, I fell in love with with both Rufus and Mateo. Especially how much they grew though the course of the book. How beautifully they grew together yet stayed the same. They grew into the mold that was truly them.
They both die at the end but they both truly live till the end..

This actually was so good and I was very skeptical, very TFIOS but also made me really think about life in a full perspective.
