What if you are planning to go to the park and your parents meet the neighbours? Find out in this hilarious (and relatable) picture book.

Finally FINALLY in June I was able to get this book and I could read it! I have had my eye on this book for almost a year but Amazon either didn’t have it in stock or it was just a bit too much. But then I could finally read it. And yes, it took a bit longer, but here is my review. If I hadn’t had my vacation in August (with just a few select posts) I would have posted this earlier.

In this book we meet a girl named Molly! She is superduper excited because today TODAY is the day for going to the park! She has big plans and she is looking forward to meeting her friends there. But what happens when she, her little brother, and their moms walk out and HELLO neighbours? Well, that is the start of a hilarious, funny, relatable, wonderful story. I just loved how Molly at first was like NOOOO, then calmed down, tried to find her zen a bit more, then just got frustrated again (just like you get to see on the cover). She really went through several stages of My Parents Won’t Stop Talking and I was just laughing so hard. Not just because it was wonderfully told/illustrated but also because it is so relatable! While I don’t remember everything from my youth, I do remember the times you had to wait as the adults were doing something or chatting. ARGH. But, I have to say, this is also kind of how I feel as an adult when I meet a neighbour and they want to talk. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a chat, but sometimes you just don’t seem to escape that chat while you also have plans.

The way this kid descends into a cosmic-scale existential crisis while waiting for her parents to finish talking to the neighbors is an absolute delight.

A different book, which I really enjoyed. I am not talking about the representation here, but the story told was a first for me, and I know my way around children's books...

Molly’s parents cause her to lose her frigging mind because they won’t stop talking and take her to the park and it is a JOURNEY. (And you definitely want to go on this journey.) Hilarious, beginning to end. Read this.

This book really captures the torture of waiting for your parents to stop talking with other boring grownups. And it is HILARIOUS.
