Loved how the book emphasized the importance of slowing down and what it costs. I still loved “A Year of Less” a little more, but found important bits of information in this book as well.

I loved her first book, and I loved this book.

The hiking info paired with the life advice felt a bit condescending if you know anything about wilderness survival. I thought that some of the changing your life & approach to life advice was interesting but buried under a lot of fluff and not as interesting content.

I’m already eager to start my first ever opt-out adventure tomorrow! (I figured I’d help myself a bit and pick the shortest month, because it’ll be a rough one for me). This book was an inspiring new way to look at changing yourself, small tweaks at a time...or large ones if you’re game. And I love that Cait related it all back to the easy metaphor of a hike up a mountain. I look forward to pulling off some of my own life parallels and maybe even one day visiting some of the locales described in the book! A great read if you feel you’re on the verge of changing your life, and you want to feel like you are not alone.

I loved her first book. This one fell short the book equivalent of influencer ✨life hacks✨ if you know you know…if you don’t common sense steeped in impracticality. Like of course I want to have quite mornings and a dope stretch routine but I have 2 toddlers, 2 dogs, and a husband…

This had so much potential. It started out strong and turned into more of a rambling life story with characters you aren’t attached to, and a few inspirational quotes thrown in. I love the concept of “opting out” and having an intentional life but this was all over the place. I was expecting more.

Nothing really new here in terms of "opting out" or living an "alternate lifestyle". There were a few bits of wisdom that I highlighted but that is it. Not really relevant to me at this point of my life (government employee, 30 years into my pension). Likely would have been more relevant to my younger (20's) self.
