'Wuthering Heights' as a story reflects the nature of its setting: gloomy and tumultuous. It is ultimately a tale of revenge - whether it is justified is for the reader to decide. I was warned against this novel that none of the characters are likeable, and while that is for the most part true, the beautiful writing and engaging story-telling makes it clear why 'Wuthering Heights' is considered a classic. Absolutely worth a read!

none of the events in this book would have happened to me, i'd have killed heathcliff with hammers

The events of this book take on a more humorous quality when you start to think of it as a long Always Sunny skit. That is literally who these people act like. Catherine and Heathcliff are so incredibly selfish that they can’t help but ruin the lives of those who come close to them (although after Catherine’s marriage and passing, he makes some very conscious choices to wreck havoc).

It is sad that there are those that hold this book in high regards as a classic romance… this book felt more like a psychological horror. Hareton’s and Catherine (the second)’s romance at the end felt similar to letting out a big relieving sigh. Like “finally someone is happy in this book”.

Anyway I loved it, this made for an amazing drama and surprisingly easy to read despite the dated language used in it.

Reread. Even more angsty than I remember, but in a good way. Ages like wine.
