I finished this a couple of weeks ago but I'm currently terrible at taking photos for reviews. Some things have at least been reviewed on Storygraph, and some things have just been forgotten!
.
It's been so long since I read Criminal that I remember nothing about it so luckily this works as a standalone!
The colouring is lovely but the drawing style made me think the characters were in their 30's when they're supposed to be teenagers.
The plot is an interesting idea but the MC's romanticism of drug addiction sometimes feels like the book is a bit too pro becoming addicted to heroin. The fact it's really short means there's not enough time spent on the actual negative impact on her or the other characters.
The teen boy, Skip, lacked much depth of character and seemed very easily led. The twist was unexpected but not very impactful, I think because there wasn't enough for me to be invested Skip before it.
It was good enough to make me want to go back and reread the rest of Brubaker and Philip's noir stories.

This was definitely a hard reason, and it can be triggering for many people. It is a short story, not entirely wrapped up, but worth a read.
