My takeaway from this book: Sebastian’s eyes are sea-green.

This was my first venture into fae-centered fantasy stories…and I’m assuming there are better stories out there for me to consume. It took me 2 MONTHS to finally finish it and I pray that it doesn’t send me into a reading slump.

Sebastian has sea-green eyes.

The endings to each chapter were abrupt and awkward to transition to the next scene…sometimes they would even end in the middle of a conversation between characters. Very jarring and pulled me out of the story.

I think Finn has silver eyes? But I KNOW FOR A FACT that Sebastian has sea-green eyes.

Brie was unlikable, had a really hard time connecting with her. Pretty much made every conversation about her, inserting herself when it wasn’t necessary.

Oh, did you happen to ask what color Sebastian’s eyes are? I gotchu girl…they’re sea-green.

WAY too much info-dumping during the last quarter of the book, way too heavy handed with the romance and really lacking in action scenes. I did enjoy the overall concept of the story, but it could’ve been done better. The ending was predictable.

Needless to say, I am not at all intrigued to pursue the next book…even if it’s only a duology.

Sebastian. Has. Sea. Green. Eyes. That will be burned into my memory since I had to read it over (what felt like) 50 times.

So good! So many plot twists. There was a lot of characters to follow so it was a bit confusing since my copy was only 200 pages (iPad)

Halfway through this book, I was like "Was this written by a Romance author?"
and it sure is 😅😅

If someone who reads purely romance wants to transition into fantasy, this is the book I would recommend.
The world is simple
The magic is understandable
Everything is told rather than shown
quick-paced
but mostly, because this reads like fanfiction.

⚜ rating: 2.5 🌟🌟 🔅
⚜Genre: High fantasy
⚜Theme: Love-Triangle romantasy
⚜Targeted audience: New Adults 16+
⚜Characters: Abriella, Sebastian/Ronan, Finn
⚜Representation: non (well, there was a teeny tiny sapphic mention)
⚜Pace: Fast, like bullet train fast
⚜TW: not that concerning, kidnapping, sacrifice
⚜ tropes: love-triangle, chosen one, trials, forced proximity, hidden identity
⚜ POV: first person one-sided
⚜ spice 🌶
⚜standalone: No, duet
⚜Ending: cliffhanger

It's a tale as old as time
the teenage poor girl who is living the Cinderella background ventures into the Faery land to save her sister.
She is in love with the golden boy, but probably will end up with the dark broody sarcastic morally grey prince.
She, of course, possesses a secret power that she didn't know she had but apparently the most powerful of all powerful superpowers.
Everyone is one, scratch that ten steps ahead of her., well  up until the last 50 pages when she shows a little bit of smartness but goes back to being outplayed

The information in this story is so much and dumped on you in a way that if you blink you miss it
and if you want an introduction to ACOTAR before reading ACOTAR then this is it.
I even think at one point when her sister  tells her go to the prince felt a lot when the suriel told Feyre to stay with the highlord

I do believe this will be enjoyed by New-to-fantasy readers or those who want to kill time at the airport.

I enjoyed this book and will very likely read the second book in the next couple of months. It was well paced and even though there were obvious twists coming the details of the twists did suprise me in places. I liked the main character and the world building.
But, for all that, there wasn't much that was unique to this book. Some characters could have been dropped in straight from another current fantasy series with their name changed and almost nothing else.
It was an easy and entertaining read, it could have been much more. I look forward to the second building on what was great and adding in more originality.
