This book was... kind of a lot. I loved just how unrepentant it was about what it was, how much it didn't try to be palatable or to be "good rep". In fact, I love just how "bad rep" Reese is. All the characters felt very real, as much as sometimes I thought their choices weren't realistic. But everything came together in the last chapter. I also really liked the flashbacks to Amy and Reese's relationship, and the frank discussion of detransitioning and how it can happen for various reasons. How frank the book was spoke to me too; the unhealthy views of womanhood many women (cis and trans alike) have, dissociation during sex, et al.

A queer romp with plenty of big questions and no interest in giving us answers.

I devoured this in a day. It's not just as good as you've heard, it's better.

Brilliant, sensitive, funny, full of character, and able to divine the complex relationships between sex, sexuality, womanhood, trans identity, parenthood, and change.

This is probably the best book I will have read in 2021. Highly recommend.

It took me a few months to finish this—though that’s my fault not the book’s. Funny, heavy, emotional, and eye-opening. So well-written. I can see myself reading this again because I think there’s a lot to reflect on in a second pass.

2021/09/14: Also recommend this interview https://youtu.be/3cMdZbe-M6s between Torrey Peters and Curtis Sittenfeld sponsored by Books Are Magic. In this interview, Peters talks about those books where you are only  able to read 8 pages at a time because they're so emotionally intense--and that is this book. I read in fits and starts because it is intense!
