Like most big, sci-fi, and or fantasy novels this book and book series is getting better with time typically the first book or the first portion of a book of the size hast to spend a ton of time on set up, and I do feel like the first book velocity weapon had to do a lot of that but now that we’ve established a lot and we have the primary players in the motivations on the board were able to just move with the plot a lot more efficiently.

Here’s what I love I love the interplay between the characters in the multiple factions kind of competing in coming against each other but also the subterfuge and espionage playing out between I like the reveals with Thomases character. I thought that was really effective and had me in some significantly draw dropping moments and I really enjoyed the overall pacing. I got this book, kept me engage the vast majority of the time we’ll still presenting a good amount of just general world building.

Here’s what I didn’t like I do you think that wow this is an extremely approachable, science-fiction series I do wish it was just a little bit more complicated. I do think that if you’ve read other genre, Fantasy and scifi of this level and size you might find some of this a little inadequate I do wish there was a little more of an explanation of how humans came to space how the gates actually worked in a little things like that, but I understand that I’m being a little nitpicky there, and I would say the other problem with this book is the pacing like any book it is that this size there’s blue that doesn’t super need to be there but overall I’m relatively OK with it especially when you keep in mind that I use the audiobook to keep me moving so getting through some of the slower sections really wasn’t an issue

Regardless, I still highly recommend this series. I’m really excited to get into book number three and see how the series ends because the set up at the end of book 2 was really good.

I think I may have enjoyed this one even more than the first. There is a lot happening here, and it's all pretty compelling. Even Biran was more interesting to me this time around, which was very welcome. I'm looking forward to book three.
