Pretty good read from Romance Book Group. I was a bit frustrated at how it felt too much like historical cosplay. The characters had super modern morals and while I don't need so much accuracy, it is annoying to me when the setting feels like it's there as more of a "this is what I would have done if I were in whatever time period". It was also a bit too on the nose, and not nearly as escapist as I usually look for in romance novels. I also don't feel like the characters grew so much as the other characters just got to know them better.

I very much enjoyed this final installment in the Leonas series! I'm not typically very drawn to historical fic (I did read more of it when I was younger) but I've really liked this series and I'd been excited for Aurora's story. A doctor working in Paris in 1889, she's running an underground women's clinic and performing procedures and providing treatments and contraception that are illegal. Her dynamic with Apollo was always rife with banter and tension, and then when he was revealed to be the true hier to the duchy, I knew it would be interesting. I loved how firey she is while still being very grounded, independent, strong, but also emotional and hurt deep down. I loved the way he fell hard and fast for her, quickly throwing out his "never go for seconds" rule and becoming an absolute goner over her. And then I loved the way they supported each other, even when that intention is what could have torn them apart in the end. It makes me sad that this story is set in the late 1800s and women's rights are being threatened, revoked, etc. again at such an alarming rate now. Like with the other two, I appreciated the author's clearly large amount of research (she even includes articles and such she read!) she puts in due to the care she has and passion for telling stories about Carribean women.

My favourite of the series so far. Aurora and Apollo are so bad-ass, both of them out there fighting the good fight. And then when they’re together it’s so sweet and joyful and caring. Absolutely loved this.

Hands down the best book in the series!!! My favourite type of character match up - good girl with a hidden past and bad boy with a heart of gold. Incredibly hot and sweet!
