4.5. Loved it, but I loved the previous one more!

After 15 books in this series, I'm still wishing I could read more. I'll miss Ruth Galloway for sure.

A solid ending for the series (if it is, indeed, the last). The mystery is twisty enough (although I did guess several of the twists, particularly the whole "masked creature jumps out at a group of camping college students" situation).

Dr. Ruth Galloway is...still maddening. So smart and yet so dumb, sometimes.
SpoilerWHY DID SHE TAKE KATE DOWN THAT LADDER?! That's on her.

I've never seen whatever qualities in Dr. Galloway (as she would insist I address her) make all the dudes she knows fall in love with her (Peter, Nelson, Frank, David...) Just, why? What about her makes her irresistible? I can't comprehend it.

But the threads are woven back together in big ways here: you probably want to read these all in order so the callbacks will make sense. I was happy to see Clough again. His energy has been missed.

SpoilerIf it wasn't exactly "happily ever after," it came as close as it could. Cathbad, despite his ominous musings, survives to potter about another day. Nelson and Ruth actually make some changes instead of just speculating about possible changes they could make. And everyone dances on the beach.

I do hope this isn’t the last Ruth book. I love these characters, the books are easy to read, the plots interesting and I always feel transported.
medium-paced

This feels like the right ending but I am sad to say goodbye to these characters.

The last in the series, tidied up the strands in the stories. But I think that the series' time has come and it's good that there'll be no more.
