Best novel I have read in a while... searing prose and very constrained length of time (24 hours) allow for beautiful exploration of the humanity and tribulations of various characters involved at all stages of an organ donation and transplant. Will reread.

Utterly heartbreaking and completely fascinating. When thinking of how to describe this book, the word that keeps coming back to me is 'fluid'. It kind of moves slowly and starts to envelop you and before you know it you're crying with the parents and working through the hospital processes and then vividly seeing the work of the surgeons. What could have been a dry description was written with such heart.

Stunningly beautiful book, describing the journey of a heart that is transplanted out of the body of a young surfer into that of a middle aged myocarditis patient. The flow of the prose mimicks that of a heartbeat, waves in an ECG or the sea. It was such an enthralling and emotional read, a true piece of art.

Wtf was that? It was soooooo bad, read this for a french class... Damn never read something that boring. There was absolutely no point to this book anyways, 1 star because she used fancy description of the medical field

DNF. Buzzfeed recommended I read this and I usually read everything they tell me to. Highly praised in the author's native of France. Sadly though, I just could not get through it. The premise is unique (the people involved and affected by an organ donation) which is what drew me in in the first place. However, there was a lot of unnecessary filler in the story. Too many character details that seemed unimportant. Also, the medical jargon is a bit ummm ... wordy. I reckon I'll revisit this book at some point just not the right time now.
