did i read this? yes. why did i read this? good question. i'm five weeks into a lear hyperfixation. that said - this may shock you - shakespeare did it better. my general opinion on tate's changes are that they're slightly better for cordelia's character, but, like, worse for everyone else's.

I'm a fan of all the tragedies but this one is in Shakespeare's top 3 for me. It's the honesty in the old man's foolishness that strikes me the most. He deserves to fall and yet you can't help but feel for him as he does.

Really exceeded my expectations - Great characters, well-plotted and paced, and some of the most fun language I've ever read! I was thrown for a second that this one wasn't divided into Acts and was rather only presented in Scenes, but it worked for the flow so I guess Old Will knew what he was doing. The ending was a little bit crazy, but also expected, if that makes sense. I'll be coming back to this one again soon.
