I wanted to like this book more than I did. I enjoyed the movie "Smoke Signals" very much and that was my reason for buying this book. I found the stories to be enjoyable, but, unfortunately, did not live up to the expectations I had for them.
It has it all
This book had it all. Love, hate, sadness with only a glimpse of happiness. It gives you some insight and helps you relate to Native Americans. If only a little bit. I know this is a fiction but it felt very real.

This collection has some of the best short stories I've read. I didn't love all of them though, and I think I was three or four stories into this book before I was sold on it. It's a bit uneven, is what I'm trying to say, but well worth it. I'll be reading more Alexie and probably coming back to this book in the future.
I'm not a huge fan of short stories in general but this book got me. The order really struck me, part of me wanted it to be more chronological (you could come up with relative time periods because of repeat characters) but by the end I realized that would've only taken away from the stories themselves.
