I really enjoyed this book! The author really brings you in on their experience with this disease. As she recalls the various symptoms and changes that she notices, I could only imagine how it felt to be in their shoes. The brain is such a powerful organ, and it really goes to show how changes in its function can alter your perception on the world, making you feel distrustful of your reality.

As they describe their interaction with others, it was challenging for her to feel validated of her experiences. However, I realized how the unwavering support from her family members played a crucial role in her difficult road to diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. In an already intimidating healthcare system, I further realized how healthcare workers should be open to learning when they don’t know an answer, and more sensitive when patients discuss their problems. It seemed that the workers that worked well with the author took time to get to know them, and acknowledge when they did not have an answer.

The author does a phenomenal job sharing such a sensitive and vulnerable part of their life, and I appreciate their work in promoting disease awareness to what was previously an extremely not well-studied condition. I definitely appreciate the importance of patience and understanding from this book, because you can never truly know what is happening to someone’s mind.

I believe I saw a movie about this at some point. It's an interesting memoir that you feel happy it ended positively. For some, it might even provide a direction to a diagnosis.
