I have always been a fan of John Waters' movies. I always loved how quirky he is and just how he has always dared to live life on his terms. This book was taken from a speech he gave to a graduating class at Rhode Island School of Design. It is so wonderfully John Waters and very inspiring. He definitely inspired me to go out into the world & fuck it up beautifully. Make Trouble is a great gift for a graduate, but it is also a great gift for people that are having trouble finding there way in this crazy world. It is easy to become complacent and the world needs more people to make trouble (in a good way). :)

I’d seen this speech before I read the book, so I already knew the things I liked and didn’t like about it.
The way this piece talks about art is wonderful. I appreciate the concepts and advice presented. It is honest, and I feel it resonating with me. It’s an impactful piece in this way. I do not want to take that away.
There’s definitely a reflection of the times Waters is from, however. The jokes he makes are somewhat insensitive and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. For that reason, this doesn’t have more stars for me.
