Short and cheesy, and sweet. Good illustration too.

Adult disobedience ftw! John Waters is delightfully dirty, and his speech turned book delivers. A great gift to the graduate in your life (assuming they like to laugh). I love that he suggests that the best way to win over the other side is through laughter (he points out how Hairspray went from being a fringe cult favorite to being performed in high schools everywhere now). For the older generations, he cautions embracing the youth, and for the new generation to go a little easier on the oldies, because things are changing faster than we can. :) And to sum up: go forth, make trouble1

I got given this in a mystery book box, and I don’t really know who the author is.

There are a few things in here I don’t like - like the understanding and mocking of ‘trigger warnings’ is just inaccurate and unhelpful, and the ‘we need rich people’ line 🤮 - butttttt I also liked a lot of it. It’s a very short, playful book (of a speech) with some killer lines designed to challenge and inspire, and in that it was successful. Also, the little drawings are charming.

I love graduation speeches and I LOVE John Waters. This was such a treat- read it in one seating and it was so much fun. It would have been amazing to hear this live. I need to start crashing graduations.

It's worth it to listen to John's speech while you read - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl05XGifKb4
