I thought the last 1/3 was very good, but I was very put out by all the catty behaviour in this book. Comparing it to The Dragon Reborn where Nynaeve, Egwene, and Elayne have a lot of page time, that book had more camaraderie, whereas this one they were constantly fighting or snipping at each other.

I was considering giving this one 3 stars because certain parts were a slog to get through, but I ended up enjoying the ending scenes, and I'm interested to see how everything continues to play out.

Definitely taking a break before continuing the next book though.

You know what? i don’t care if the majority thinks this a flaw, and yes it was so damn annoying, but i will say the constant and never-ending whining and complaining about the opposite gender from either one is pretty realistic.
As a man i found myself relating to the male characters when they got confused by a woman’s actions or words. And not a day goes by where i don’t see a woman going “Men” as Nynaeve and Elayne do a billion times in this book.

The story progresses well enough! 4 nations conquered and another Forsaken dead, i… genuinely don’t see how it can go on for 9 more books the pace its going. I must say, i love the concept of balefire, the beam of light that burns a thread out of the Pattern. And the stronger the balefire, the further back in time that thing/person is erased from existence. I honestly thought Rand already fucked up in the end with Rahvin but seems it all came out fine. Which was, to be honest, slightly disappointing. I'm hoping in the next books someone does mess up so we can see the real big consequences of balefire.

We did get a whole lotta Perrin the last book so i was not surprised he wasn’t in this book, though I thought we would get one or two chapters at least. I'll never get enough of Mat. He's the only character i will always look forward to and am excited to read even if the last chapter ended in the best cliffhanger.

I had planned to finish The Fires of Heaven the month that i started it. But hey, i am still delusional enough to believe i can finish the rest of the series by 2026.

To be honest, I'm having a bit of sunk-cost fallacy moment with this series. It's good, but not really worth reading 14 (I think) 800+ page books, but I've read 5 already so I might as well read the rest, right? Anyway, as with the past few books, it had its good bits, its bad bits, and a lot of stuff that didn't really need to be there.

 ***4.5 Stars***

Overall,
So much happened in this book. As the 5th book in the series all of the main characters are growing and learning and maturing into the positions they find themselves in. Props to Robert Jordan for writing SO MANY SIDE characters and keeping them straight. As of right now Mat is still my favorite character, the reluctant hero. Rand and Aviendha in the snow, Eguane putting Nyneve in her place, Elayne and Nyneve learning all the new things. I missed Perrin this book and didnt get enough of Min. I am obviously going to continue the series, I can see why this is so beloved through time.
