I would rate it a 3 but the half a star comes from the fact that the book is written so convincingly written that you don't think it's fiction at first. You can believe all that happened and I am impressed by this style as it felt quite unique. Even down to the amendment at the end of the book that is clearly just part of the book still. However, the book loses a lot of points for the sheer amount the author wrote about his hometown only. It felt more like a writing exercise in a college course about a home town than it felt appropriate for the book.

Ok. I think I enjoyed the writing and narration of this book much better then the whole plot. Not to say that it was boring ( it’s not! ) but for some reason I wasn’t really involved so much into figuring out who the “Boogeyman” is and when Finally we find out… I never would even think of that person! Enjoyed this book and want to explore more book by the author!

I started this with the audio, and moved to my Kindle. I know Rich, and the voice of the narrator is just not close. It threw me off. Reading on my own, I could hear him talking, and everything shifted gears. This is a very interesting book. A book within a book, a story about a story... a great glimpse into everyday life in the world where the author grew up... full of messages and insights... and mystery. Highly recommended.

The concept of the book of a fictional true crime book carried me through most of the book. I was little jarred by some of the pictures looking too new to be in the 80s. Found myself skimming more than reading in chunks of the book.
