I really liked the Princess Aurora retelling, but unfortunately, with the language slipping between modern and old fashioned, and some jerky storytelling/scenes, this book just couldn't hold my attention.

Aury, a princess, and Filip, a mountain elf prince are forced into a marriage for an alliance to have more warriors to keep the Wylfen away.

Aury, however, despises this arrangement and has a plan to become the most powerful mage in the kingdom instead to protect it, without a need for a marriage.

While for Prince Filip, he realizes he is engaged to a stubborn princess with magic that could potentially hurt him.

Little do they know, their relationship would change and their attraction for each other grows undeniably.

Inspired by the fairytale, Sleeping Beauty, Enchanting the Elven Mage was a fun standalone to read! I’ll be looking forwards to reading more of the author’s books.

It is also perfect for lovers of fantasy romance!

(Go read The Fae King’s Assassin by the same author, I loved it!)

Bootiful . I absolutely loved this book. One of the most smooth enemies to lovers book I have ever read . I love how Filip actually agrees with Aury’s point of view on how to rule a country and that he appreciates she wants to be independent

I was actually really impressed with this book. It is the first free Kindle book I would think about purchasing. The writing flows well, the characters are interesting, and the world is pretty well thought out. I do wish the Fae court was better integrated into the story. This is not a spoiler, but the main character was raised here and then finds out she is actually human. After that the Fae are left alone. Perhaps in other books this gets more attention. Also note this is a Sleeping Beauty retelling that follows the Disney version not the Grimm.

The book is very promising and made me nostalgic for younger YA. I love the magic that the author uses, but the overall story could use another round of editing, especially with the character development and the showing, not telling. I'm glad to see more Elvish fantasy on the rise, though, and would love to read other Sleeping Beauty retellings!

***I received a free copy for a honest review***.

I really tried to love this story, but both of the main characters were, not awful, but ungodly annoying. I wish I could have seen where the story went and how it concluded, but it was just too painful listening to the two of them bicker like school children. I finally DNF'd at 60% after wishing I would have just let is lie at 30%
Our lead was selfish and bratty. The love interest, while considerably less bratty and selfish, had no substance. The supporting characters were flat. and the world building was only okay.

Disappointed

The entire book felt like an afterthought. I wish there would have been more depth....not just..this happend, then this, then this, conclusion.....it felt dispassionate, like the writer wanted to be done with the book the minute she set out to write it.

3.5; this was a pretty endearing read though it took me a bit to get settled in with the writing, which was sometimes charming and occasionally a little awkward, but by the halfway point, reading this was a breeze.

aury comes off as a bit childish and naive in her desire to prove her worth but i ended up quite liking her. admittedly the whole becoming a magelord storyline is a little too easy but well, sometimes you do just want to see your protagonists succeed lol. filip is a sweetheart (and his friends are so loyal, it’s cute) and i loved that the more vulnerable moments in this book actually came in his chapters.

if you’re looking for a light fantasy read, i’d recommend giving this a try :)
