This one was heavy and written in such an interesting way. A lot of it was in second person which I don’t encounter often. Would recommend!

This is by far the most unique and moving memoir that I’ve ever read. In the Dream House details Carmen Maria Machado’s experiences in an abusive queer relationship. It’s told primarily in vignettes tying in many references to religion, the justice system in the U.S., and her own upbringing.

Machado makes the most incredible and poignant connections to help the audience understand a perspective that they might not be familiar with. You can’t help but feel sorrowful over her struggles and yet amazed with her strength.

Nonfiction is not anywhere near my favorite genre, but stories like this are a reminder of the importance of memoirs and the ways in which they can build perspective and empathy.

Check tw before starting this one, because the content is very heavy.
