Wonderful introduction to Thai literature, which I hadn't read much off. I really enjoyed the many stories, and explorations of different topics. Interesting characters, sometimes a bit confusing story lines, but overall a compelling read.

I really appreciated the language of this book, and it was great to read a novel that left me feeling fully immersed in the intricacies of another culture--the story, and the manner of storytelling, felt very Thai to me. I have one complaint about the novel, which is that I wish it had focused a bit more on the interiority of the female characters. Ultimately it felt like the richest characters in the novel were men, and though women featured prominently in the story, it didn't feel like it was *their* novel.

The novel was beautifully written, but I found the non-linear (and thus occasionally confusing) plot somehow tedious and the story partially dragged on. Also, I could not really engage with any of the characters! 🤷🏼‍♀️
