A bit thrillery and tense for my usual tastes but very gripping and interesting.

This is an interesting book. The writing is just gorgeous; very haunting and lyrical, it’s just beautiful. The plot is interesting and there’s lots of twists and turns. In hindsight a lot of things made sense and I think the construction of the mystery was done well. I liked the structure of it; I liked seeing the different character’s perspectives and the element of unreliable narration, it made it more interesting.
I personally found it a little confusing in parts – the writing style was lovely but it was a bit vague in parts and I had to reread certain parts again to make sure I understood what was going on.
Overall, though, I found this to be a strange and haunting little tale, simply told with an unusual structure that suited it very well.

One of the characters speaking in 1992 mentions a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cake but they were called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in the UK at that point. Lazy research.
The caricatures of working class people were embarrassing, as was the constant unnecessary name-dropping of TV shows..
