Sometimes you're just not the target audience for a book and that's okay <3
I will say though that -despite my grievances with Saoirse- this was a beautifully written and captivating read, which I found hard to put down at times. The dynamics of the immediate and extended family were fascinating and it prompted a lot of discourse in our book club so I can't complain about that. There was plenty to say about internalised misogyny, continuing the cycle, perception of consequences, and just in general about how communities/families impact ones character.
I think if I didn't find some of the characters so unbearably infuriating and lacking in development (sometimes their actions and behaviours are completely irrational and hard to understand...my blood pressure bore the burden) this would've been a more enjoyable read but you can't have everything I guess.
