Is she happy? She doesn’t understand. She has never considered it. It is possible to be so entirely happy you never ask the question.

I've written my review once, but it's lost somewhere between all the notes and stuff, and honestly I don't really remember what happened in this book anymore, but I'll try again.

Sophie was a lovable character in her own way, although she had some weird things, she gave me a bit of a twisted Barbie feeling (and basically the whole book).

The plot was fast - very fast - twisted and a bit tangled, to be honest, but for such a small book, I think that's acceptable. It was full of biblical references (the basic story itself could have come from there - Adam & Eve & Lilith) or something like that. A short read was fine in its own way, but I wouldn't say I liked it very much.

What this book taught me is that I should trust my ability to read between the lines or interpret certain things, because I had a feeling where this is going in the first couple of pages but instantly dismissed it but I was right.

Anyway, the
biblical conclusion
will not appeal to everyone and I myself am a bit conflicted about how it all ended, but I really enjoyed Catherynne M. Valente's writing so I will see what else she has written.

Oh, I really liked this!

"Eat it, you fucking pig, eat it." As we all know next up is our good sis Eve, and she, indeed, is going to make him fucking eat it. Good for her. Sidebar: Cascavel can GET IT! Not, sorry!

First book of the year.
Quick read. Super bizarre!
One of the weirdest books I've read in a while.
Enjoyed it but was lost about what's happening for the first two thirds of the book.
Personally didn't find it scary, just slightly unsettling. I didn't mind that as I don't really read much horror but if you're looking for a suspenseful horror/thriller then this probably isn't the book for you.

Loved the writing style and the descriptions. Overall stunning prose!
The book was super visual and I think it would make a fantastic movie if it's ever adapted.

The animal/people names bit was clever, but once I caught on to the fact that they were most definitely actual animals when Sophia presented them with the gifts it became a little silly.

Mixed feelings on the Adam/Eve thing.

COMFORT ME WITH APPLES is a story of trouble in paradise, when Sophia finds something out of place and begins to question everything she knows about her life.
The worldbuilding is amazing, deftly layered through lists of community rules and the details of Sophia’s explorations. Sophia is a bit saccharine as a character, I prefer more of an edge to protagonists, but her sweetness is important to the plot and is used very well.
I love the ending, it ties things up neatly in a way that suits the story as a whole.
