I’ve had trouble giving a rating here - the last 1/4 or so was 4 stars but the rest was just fluff. I feel like this should have been a short story to set up the next 2 books. The plotting was awful with hints of gold character work that played out in the end, but it’s tough to recommend slogging through 80% of this book just to get the ending that was good but not fantastic.

love this even more on a reread! i will say the audiobook was EXCELLENT the voices were fantastic, jedao and kujen were perfect. great use of audio storytelling w the mind merging things that happen toward the end. 5 STARS THROUGH AND THROUGH

It has catchy idea and detailed world-building. But after that it's just internal dialog and constant jargon. I found myself putting it down easily and not going back to it for long periods of time. When I finished, I realized that I wasn't invested in the outcome.
