This was another FANTASTIC read! With the Night Rebel books, Jeaniene Frost is 2/2 for me! I left the last book on the edge of my seat and so anxious to see what would happen next. Not only did I not predict anything correctly, I way underestimated where things could go. I buddy read with Anne, Lillian and Brandee and - for the second book in a row - we all gave this 5 stars.

In an attempt to not spoil book 1 for those who haven't read it (and seriously, you need to if you're at all a fan of the Night Huntress world!), I'm going to be pretty vague about what happens in this book and focus on my reactions/feelings.

Veritas did frustrate me a little, but her behavior was not unreasonable. I just wanted to shake her for being unfair to herself and, as a side effect, Ian. Ultimately, though, she's acting out of love and I can't fault her for that. Ian, on the other hand, showed exactly who he is. The depths of this man -- which I just KNEW were there -- shined so bright I don't see how anyone could miss it (and yet, they still don't see him clearly). I do think Cat and Bones might be finally starting to see. Maybe?

There are some really big reveals in terms of Veritas's history/identity and even bigger questions -- hello second cliff-hanger of the series! There's also incredible - yes, incredible - action and magic. And, if you're looking for some spiciness, you won't be disappointed either. Veritas and Ian's reconnection is far from mild. I do feel like there's a lot to answer in just one book... I have a little bit of a concern that I'm not going to get all my questions answered ever. But I'll reserve judgment on that note until I've read the final book.

I listened to this, and like book 1, I'm pleasantly surprised. Has Tavia Gilbert become a favorite narrator? No, absolutely not. But she also isn't bothering me! And that's with considerable sections with Bones (her voice for him grated on me considerably until these books). One of three things has happened - (1) she took some notes and improved; (2) these books are so damn good that I just can't be bothered by her narration; and/or (3) I've grown accustomed to her voices. It's probably some combination of all 3. But whatever the reason, I'm thankful, as I'd never get through all these books this quickly without listening. Can't wait for book 3!

I enjoyed this book that dives into the life of Ian. The only bad thing I have to say is that I enjoyed the first book more.

I am enjoying Ian's books but I gotta say, I feel like he is wayyyy tamer than I expected. Considering what I expected based on how naughty Bones (kisses and hugs) is. Come on...…….

Please note that if you have NOT read the first book of this series, there may be minor spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk.

To say I devoured this book is an understatement. I’m not sure I’ve ever read/listened/consumed – take your pick – a book faster than I did this one. Wicked Bite by Jeaniene Frost is the second book in Veritas and Ian’s story. Shades of Wicked ended on a brutal cliffhanger. Ian is without his memories, yet he remembers how he felt about the little Law Guardian and is determined to find her. Veritas is wallowing in her own grief and attempting to fulfill the vow she made to her father to hunt down the souls released from Dagon when the story opens.

Veritas is one of my favorite characters to read. She is not a damsel in distress, she can kick your butt if she needs too. She is fierce, loyal, and despite all the bad things she seen and experiences, she remains good at her core. How can you not like her? Here we see a different side of Veritas. Her carefully cultivated emotional walls are crumbling. She let her other half out to play, and she has no idea how to stuff that and her feelings back into the proverbial cage she let them out of. Her entire world has upended, and to make matters worse, the man she is running from, the man who made her feel, the man who loved every piece of her is hunting her down, and she doesn’t know why.

Ian is Ian. There is no other way to put it. Of all the characters we’ve met in this series, Ian is the one you can count on no matter what. He’s always brought levity to the story, and he does that here, but also we are finally seeing what no one else has seen: his decency and goodness. Ian has a heart of gold, a depraved, sex-focused heart of gold, but still gold. Veritas sees straight through him like no one other than his sire Mencheres does. I love seeing this side of him. His single-minded focus to find her is endearing and of course he does it in true Ian fashion 😉

There is so much I could unpack about the plot of this one, but

Overall, I loved this one just as much if not more than the first. Ian and Veritas are simply perfect together. The banter is spot on. The action which drives the story is exciting and engaging. I absolutely did not want to stop reading it (sorry to the girls I buddy read with, I totally left them behind 😅). If you are a fan of paranormal romance and urban fantasy and haven’t read this series, I highly, HIGHLY recommend it.

Wow this series has blown me away so far. I am obsessed with Ian. I love this wit, his power, everything. I love the contrast between him and Veritas and just how different they are. This second book picks up directly where the first left off and it's just a series of twists and turns and adventure all the way through. Jeaniene Frost is a queen.
