I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It was cool to read about the evil queen and how she become evil, nothing groundbreaking but a cute, easy read.

It's interesting mostly because in this retelling Grim actually loves Snow White. And what is going on in her mind since she is a child can be relatable in some way for a lot of girls.

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was 12 years old and in the middle of my bedroom I wore a hairband like it was a crown. I wanted to be a princess. I still want to be a princess. A Disney Princess actually. So, when the Disney Twisted Tales came out I was quite excited and I'm now constantly looking forward to the next one. But for some reason I hadn't gotten to the Villains counterpart of those tales. A pity.

This tale is, despite everything that, as we know, happens eventually, in a way kinda heartwarming. And I personally think that's quite an achievement when you're writing about a kinda one-dimensional villain. And I think that's what makes this a very fitting, Disney Villain Origin Story. In a way the book has that traditional Disney vibe. It's a story about loss and love. It's a story about family. It's a story about growing up, about emotional pain and a story about trauma.

I personally think that the change from caring mother to full blown villain went a little fast for my taste and I'm not gonna tell you that we all of a sudden have a layered and complicated character. I am however gonna say that I found this origin story believable. It fits the Evil Queen we meet in the story of Snow White. And without making her less of a villain, it does explain why she does what she does and became who she became.

In a way I ended up feeling incredibly sorry for her. There are so many moments where she is attempting to make the right choice and do the right thing and it are always outside factors playing with her emotions again pushing her back on the path of the poisoned apple. And in way the book does show us how important love is for people, how important praise is, how important compliments are and honest guiding. Aren't we all craving to be seen and appreciated by those we love most?
