The book was overall good. I wasn't into the story till I finished like 100 pages , and my reading process went slowly because I was a bit busy.

The book is well-written, and I loved a bunch of quotes from the book that were very inspiring, but I couldn't find them on good reads, which is very upsetting:"(

I loved the names that Rezink gave to the kids: Zombie, Nuggets. I thought they were funny.

The book made me start believing in aliens, and now I think they exist, and one day they'll decide to take over our planet :O

I'm debating whether I should give it 3 or 4 stars, so I'm gonna go with 3.5 and give it 4 stars here on good reads.

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains.
After the 2nd, only the lucky escape.
And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive.
After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie's only hope for rescuing her brother--or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

I don't read a lot of post apocalyptic stuff, but most of the ones I have read have had the "aliens take over the world" theme. Certain elements of this reminded me of The Host by Stephenie Meyer, although that was a cake walk compared to this, and in the end, the stories had little in common. The atmosphere of this book, and the not knowing if you can trust other people thing reminded me a bit of the TV show Falling Skies. I think it was that atmosphere that won me over. It was tense, and the characters not knowing who they could trust made it interesting for me. Then there is also the "enemy turned lover" scenario that made it interesting too. I think I'm in the minority when it comes to the romance because I actually liked it, and it was one aspect of the book that I enjoyed. I liked the whole "love can change the way a person sees the world and others" theme there, and I didn't think it took over the story or anything.

I'm not gonna lie, this series was depressing at times, and there are some morally questionable things done by characters. I particularly found the boot camp where the children as young as five were being conditioned and brainwashed, and turned into soldiers hard to read. I almost wanted to stop, but I kept going. The main character, Cassie doesn't exactly come off as the most likable protagonist to a lot of people, but I was still able to like her. The thing is, I could understand her behaving in the way she does in this book, because she was a teenager put in a horrifying situation. She's lost her whole family. She's alone, and she's lost all trust in everyone. I could see a person becoming that way in this situation. I do think that the book could have shown us more people willing to trust and help each other. Most of those type of people end up dead in this book. That brings up the questions, how far should we go to save the human race? How much of ourselves should we sacrifice? What would we have to become in order to do that, and is it worth it?

In the end, I have mixed feelings about this book. I gave it 4 stars because there were things I liked a lot about it, and at certain parts I had a hard time putting it down. As a YA book I would definitely say this isn't a book for young teens. It's very dark and gritty. There is also a lot of cursing in this series as a whole, with lots of F bombs thrown in; more than in most of the books I've read written for adults in the last year.

Si bien recordaba las partes importantes de la novela aún así he disfrutado mucho releyendo a Cassie y el resto. ¡Lo que no entiendo es como en su día no corrí a leer el segundo con ese final!

A great book. I liked how it was written and the way that the characters talked about their ability to stay human. Cassie was a tough character that still had a soft spot. Even when she did something terrible and out of her human nature like killing someone Cassie still got emotional showing how even with the Others being there she still had her humanity. Ben was a character that had everything and everything and was the popular kid till the Others came and I like how the story showed how he could be more than that. Ben toughed up even when everyone else said he was a weakling. Sammy (Cassie's brother) even changed throughout the story as he was taken by the Others. He was scared at first and continued to be scared but he persevered and stayed strong believing in the promises others made to him. Sammy kept his innocents which was hard for many people in this novel after disaster hit. Evan was a great character and I loved his struggle with being an Other and a human. Explaining what he really is, is an abstract thing. He is part of Evan Walker but he isn't. He doesn't have his own body yet he does. He was a really great character to learn about, however I would like to know more about why Evan fell in love with Cassie like that? Did he see how much she wanted to live? Did he see her humanity and want to be like that? Did he see that she only wanted to die if she died for her brother someone she loved? This is the only part of the story that really confused me. Someone people might have an idea but I needed it spelled out for me but oh well that's just me. Evan and Cassie just connected immediately and I wish the author would have talked more about why Evan wanted to make that connection. The story was different and well written with different viewpoints from certain characters. I liked how all the characters got to tell their viewpoints and were connected somehow either by blood, the past or by a different connection. Certain parts of the book were predictable like who Evan really was or when Cassie would meet up with Ben or even if Ben would show up. Even with somethings being predictable the story was still really, really good. Yes there have been alien books before and yes this had hints of The Giver or The Hunger Games because the Others want a perfect world just for them and no one else yes this book is similar to other dystopias but the writing was so good and so were the characters they were realllllllly goooood!!! The feelings that the characters felt were so real and it wasn't just from the viewpoint of one character making it one sided. Even secondary characters like Cassie's dad and mom were important because they showed how families look out for one another. Even when all hope is lost it's better to live and die for someone you love rather than just live and die.

An alien apocalypse has wiped out the world's population and only few survivors remain, including our heroine Cassie Sullivan, a regular 16-year-old high school kid before the Arrival, who will do everything in her power to get back her five-year-old brother Sammy from the clutches of the alien powers that be.

Cassie has lost her parents and all the people she cares about during the First, Second, Third and Fourth Waves, the Others' horrific and systematic purging of all of Earth's inhabitants, and there is no one left to be trusted. Absolutely no one.

She barely escapes with her life after an encounter with a Silencer, alien soldiers living inside human bodies deployed to eradicate survivors, and wakes up in the home of quiet and mysterious Evan Walker, a young man who nurses her back to health and teaches her to fire a gun but whom Cassie is uncertain whether to trust or not.

It's an engaging, fast-paced and exciting read fans of The Hunger Games or the Divergent trilogies will enjoy. Terrific suspense with just the right amount of humor and romance. I cannot wait to read the next book in this trilogy.

Really fast paced and exciting in the beginning. Towards the middle it wasn’t as great, but I’m glad I pushed through because the ending was awesome!

The second best science fiction book I have ever read (for me, nothing gets better than Michael Grant's "Gone" series). I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I literally couldn't get through it fast enough!! CanNOT wait to read the next one >.<
