The writing style was very cool, if you can embrace ambiguity. Each of the short stories was filled with emotion. I read this for a Spanish advanced writing class, and it was cool to read this text in an academic setting and learn about some of the symbolism and connections I would have missed on my own.

A quick read that is absolutely horrifying. Who knew these horrors are a reality to migrants on the border? It was baffling two hours to consume this book. I want to read it in its original language.

Definitely one you have to let sink in, especially if you read it in English.

This book is very disjointed and difficult to decipher, but that really adds to the dream-like atmosphere. There is a lot of tragedy in it but it colors so directly and bluntly the struggles of the Mexican-American migrant workers who live in poverty and constantly have their lives uprooted to work, only to be met with poor working conditions, abuse, and scarcely any pay. Although a bit confusing and disorienting, it is an easy and gripping read.
