I enjoyed this book. I was so angry for Chiamaka and Devon throughout this story. This fictional story has so many parallels to the world we live in. The ending was overall satisfactory, but I wish we would have gotten more closure on Dre and Devon’s dad

This book has been on my read list for a long time, simply because the cover is gorgeous. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book and finished it in less than a week.
While I feel that it is definitely aimed at a younger audience, with the themes being more on the nose than Get Out, it is successful in portraying what it desires. When the antagonist Aces was initially introduced, I had already deduced whowas a part of Aces , but that isn't to say the book wasn't effective - it's simply because I'm older with more experience. I could immediately tell which characters weren't actually their friends. The various relationships that the books explores support the narrative well, though I wish some had more of a conclusion. The final 1/3 of the book felt like it was barreling toward an ending so there were many aspects I felt did not receive the end that it deserved. Such as the developing friendship between the protagonists, which ends during the early budding of their friendship. Overall, I personally think that this is a great book for a young adult to dive into.
