Overall, this book was a quick and entertaining read. I did feel that the big twist or reveal was somewhat obvious and I question the accuracy of the some of the portrayals of mental illness in the novel. In addition, I actually felt that there were missed opportunities in the plot and that these missed opportunities could have been more interesting, if written, than what actually was.
Excellent psychological murder mystery. It is sad when someone bipolar has done something during an episode that makes everything they say insignificant and not believable. If a person is on their medication, you should give them the benefit of the doubt, they may really know what they are talking about.
Sad when a persons upbringing can so severely shatter their children's lives. All of this is in this book. As usual I do not want to give away the plot or the interesting parts. So I implore you to read this book.

A creepy thriller about a woman with a troubled past who suspects that her next door neighbor is a murderer.
I found this book compulsively readable; the (two) plot twists really took me by surprise and I completely kicked myself for not seeing one of them coming. However, as much as I enjoyed it, I felt that the small bit of the vulgarity towards the end felt entirely too forced. Vulgarity doesn't normally bother me, but when it's done poorly, I feel that it really cheapens the overall impact of the story at hand.

There’s no world in which I don’t enjoy a Peter Swanson novel, so you can get that idea out of your head right now. Although this one just barely tiptoed over the line into five-star territory, it was just as fluid and natural as each of his past works before. He has this incredible knack for making each situation seem so ordinary yet so fantastic in the same stroke. Like anything could happen to anyone.

3.5 stars. After reading some of Peter Swanson's other books including the kind worth killing, I was a little disappointed in this one. It is an interesting premise, but I think it started a little slow. I thought it was interesting that you knew who the killer was the whole time but not quite how everything fit together and was going to end. The relationship between Hen and Matthew was intriguing. Maybe another reason it wasn't my favorite was because I really didn't like any of the characters. I will still continue to read Peter Swanson because I like his writing style, but this just was not my favorite.
Not an overly dark and twisty book. Wasn’t too fast or too slow when it came to the pace. The right amount of details, good character development. Not overly whiny or annoying characters. Really just a great story
