Peter Swanson has done it again! This is my 3rd Swanson and I'm betting that number is going to quickly rise. This book kept me interested and intrigued from the very beginning. I will admit I was annoyed with so much information up front. I tend to dislike it when secrets are revealed too early because I love the suspense of it all, but he did it really well in this book. Entertaining, likeable characters, suspenseful, and fun twists!
This book was very well written and that plot twist at the end. Wow I never saw it coming. But this book was really dark and creepy. And the things this book discussed were just insane. It was a very well written book but I don’t know how I can say I enjoyed reading it. Because this is one of those books I don’t think I’ll ever read again. Once was enough.
3.5/5 - Eh. I'm still confused. This was highly addictive though. I definitely want to read [b:The Kind Worth Killing|21936809|The Kind Worth Killing|Peter Swanson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1417981750l/21936809._SY75_.jpg|41240456].
Spoiler
I have one major question. Does Mira know about Richard? I know she mentioned him when she came back from her travels (something about the place looking different and Richard likely having spent the night there). I don't know how this would be possible unless she knows that her husband has a split-personality? If you've read the book, please tell me if I missed something.
The only other Peter Swanson book I've read is Eight Perfect Murders, and I loved that mystery set in a very atmospheric snowy Boston around a bookstore. This is not that. This is much more of a popcorn thriller. You learn on page 15 who the killer is, so this is not a whodunit. It becomes kind of like a cat and mouse game, but I don't think the author goes all in with this, and I would have enjoyed more of a fast-paced mental chase between the two main characters.
Instead, I was a bit bored and found the characters a bit annoying. Plus, alternating chapters are written from the killer's perspective, which is disturbing and icky (though not that gory). Honestly, I kept reading because it was an easy read and I wanted to know what happened, but I wasn't super invested in the story. Toward the end, however, the story takes a surprising turn that I give the author credit for. But there are also a few unanswered at the end of the book, especially around how much the killer's spouse knew. So, just a mediocre thriller with a few good plot points.

Engaging from the start and not obvious. However there are unanswered questions
3.5 stars. Men are fucking TRASH. There was little mystery in this which was disappointing and the book synopsis did not fit the plot which was confusing. There was a little twist at the end, but the structure of this was just okay. Nothing overly exciting and again, all the men are trashhhh.
Absolutely amazing. A true thriller and the loops made you gasp. Such a good book I couldn’t put it down. Highly suggest as a book club read.
When I say I gasped at the twist, I literally gasped out loud.
I couldn’t put this book down. You know who is evil from the beginning, but the way it all unfolds is done extremely well and you don’t see the twist coming… at least I didn’t.

Ever since reading a gifted ARC copy of Nine Lives I have been a HUGE @petermswanson fan. His writing style and ability to throw a seasoned reader like myself is something I really enjoy.
Before She Knew Him is a suspenseful tale about Hen(rietta) who moved into a new home with her husband, Lloyd, next to a man named Matthew who she thinks may have killed a college student a few years before. Hen has her own issues and, because of this, NO ONE BELIEVES HER. So, you think this entire book is going to be about her trying to convince everyone, including her husband, that he's a murderer. NOPE. Not really. It takes a turn. And just when you think *maybe* you're figure it out. SCREECH! FULL STOP. It. Will. Blow. Your. Mind.
I freaking loved it.
A+. Would recommend if you love suspense and great twists.
