I wanted to like this book more than I did.

he main problems were twofold. One, the "future" portion of the work is based on a complete misunderstanding of physics and the speed of light.

Second, the art was extremely erratic. In one panel or page it would be wonderful, on others barely phoned in.

I read this a few months ago and already barely remember the story. I do remember it being a bit pretentious and trying too hard to be profound. The artwork is stunning, however, both kinetic and dreamy at once. I wouldn't buy it, but it was a pleasant enough way to pass an hour on the till at work.

I was a little confused when I finished this, but after I'd put it down and thought about it overnight, I finally came up with an opinion.

It's nice. The storyline is a little higgilty-piggilty, and honestly, there are still parts of it where I'm thinking, 'okay, what happened and how does this relate?'

There is a review on here that I feel sums up what I felt was wrong with the novel. This is the one, if you care to read. I don't agree with all of it, but it does talk about what I felt was missing and problematic with the comic.

What I thought stood out was the artwork. Some people on here have said that it wasn't that great, and it can detract from the story, but I felt this is what stood out. I like painted comics best, and I like sketchy art, both of which The Fountain had. I also think it works best for the future scenes.

I haven't seen the movie (which Peter will be annoyed about, because he kept telling me to watch the movie before reading the book... sorry!) so I can't compare, but I'll be watching it after I've mulled over the story a little more.

Works well as a retelling of the Fountain story through a different medium to the film - makes me think about rewatching the film now...

Another beautiful rendering of my favorite movie in the world! Interesting to know this was done before the movie and selection of the cast. I enjoyed the story in this medium as a great companion piece to the movie. I also own a beautiful edition of this book!

I did prefer the film, but the artwork was incredible and truly lent to the feel of the story.

The Fountain is a beautiful companion to the spectacular film by the same name. Kent Williams captures the essence of the story and delivers breathtaking panels. This is one graphic novel that I don't mind giving away, then reordering.

If you connected to the film, then the graphic novel is a must.
