I was worried that my son would hesitate to read this book because it has a strong female character. Sometimes he can be like that. But I really should have been more concerned that he would want a churro. I need to nominate this for the WCCPBA 2021.

“...but she marched up to him anyway, picturing churros for courage...”

Maria loves churros more than anything, which, I feel you, girl, except instead of churros, it's doughnuts from Stan's. To feed her churro habit Maria enters a bullfight contest where the prize is a lifetime supply of churros. The leap from Maria worrying about how to win, to asking the bull to dance, was a bit much--but I'll forgive the book this one small flaw.
