I love everything Becky Chambers writes and will forever read anything by her. To be taught, if fortunate is a very beautiful, thought provoking novel about science and humanity and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think due to the scientific nature of the writing I wasn’t able to connect as deeply with the characters as I did in the wayfarer series and the monk and robot duology but it was a blast nonetheless.

It was an interesting book with plenty of decent ideas, but it really felt underdeveloped. The lack of internal conflict as well as the ending were not satisfying to me. A shame, because it could have easily been a lot better imo.

I looooooved the characters and their interactions, such a cozy bunch. I cried when

the little guy got into the ship on mirabilis

and entirely didn't agree with

their decision in the end

. also the interview section on the symbiosis of science fiction and science? very cool take. and I like that the title finally made sense in the end. All in all, I didn't expect such a tiny book could make me feel so many feelings.
