It was pretty good, but not really the best for me.

This book was phenomenal, the introduction of the world, the flaws of the characters, Eira’s push to be the best she can be as a sorcerer with unique abilities, and finally the plot twists.

This is definitely a slow burn with almost a love triangle going on but Eira spends most of her time working through her own family drama and proving everyone wrong about her and what happened three years before the book began.

Eira and her best friend, Alyss, are a wonderful pairing to compete in the trials together but not against each other. Cullen, The Prince of the Tower, and friend of Eira’s brother, Marcus, grows on you as a reader with his unknown past and family struggles.

I was devastated with what happened in the fourth trial, especially after the blind sided truth Eira finds out about after trial 2. I also didn’t see the antagonist coming at all, maybe because of the same reasons as Eira.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to readers of fast-paced, high fantasy with a unique twist on elemental magic. I’ve already picked up the next book in the series to continue the adventure to find out more about Eira’s past and about Meru.

“I don’t think I could ever hate you…you are a bright spot in a dark world.”

I loved book this so much, it gave major goblet of fire vibes and I was so here for that! It was fun to read and I absolutely loved Eira!! and Cullen!! He’s broody and sad and a little mysterious and I want more of him! and that scene where they
have to kiss to throw off what they we’re actually doing??
Pure gold. I honestly got so attached to these characters, especially Eira, and was way more emotional than I expected to be. The magic & world in this book are intriguing and I’m very curious about Meru.

I really enjoyed this book and I cannot wait for the next book to see what happens next!
