I found myself wanting to know MORE about the mothers. I actually thought this book lacked a focus on them, and talked more about their sons as some points. Maybe it's due to the fact that Alberta died fairly young as well, and Louise chose a more private life. But it really felt like it lacked meat.  The last chapter acted as an Ode to Motherhood and would be a phenomenal essay.

A sobering read to say the least. Anna Malaika Tubbs does a fantastic job of highlighting the mothers’ role in raising these three great men. Her writing style shows clear and concise research and I’m left feeling informed, humbled and inspired. These women and their sons stories deserve to be told over and over again for generations to come.

This is an important look at history. There are parts that are incredibly hard to listen to but it’s real history and should not be ignored. These women and their sons deserve the focused attention. Tubbs did a wonderful job shedding light on these historical women who shaped the United States.
