nabokov is such a mood honestly bro has peak humour for his time. jokes aside though this book was way ahead of its time and is still unbelievably influential to this day. love it so so much humbert bro you’re sick but i love him like

This book is like a train wreck. It’s fascinating but in a horrific, sick and twisted way. A self aware child rapist is not something I considered possible prior to this and is still not something I’m convinced exists outside of fiction. A unique POV always captivates me, and this novel stayed true to that trend.

Not a particularly fun read. Definitely made me feel incredibly uncomfortable at times. The more I read, though and the more i grasped exactly what Nabokov was doing, the more i had to respect this achievement in language and storytelling. Just some crazy stuff by Nabokov with regard to language, allusion, the archetype of the story. It’s crazy how this book operates - ie. a lot of the really disgusting and intense stuff is filtered through humbert which 1) makes it difficult to discern what is going on and 2) creates a constant need to  remind yourself that Lolita is 12 years old.

i don’t know, i’ll have to read a paper on this book or something.

Prose was very impressive, although not necessarily engaging or beautiful.

I tried but I just don't think I have the reading muscle for this. Maybe I should have read the annotated version. Or maybe I just don't care.

DNF somewhere halfway. It put me on a reading slump and can't get into it since. Would give it another read sometime next year, maybe.

so dark at times humberts thinking had my face grimacing in disgust but still somehow the author made me feel a tingle of sadness for someone so awful cruel and simply bad bad man that is a testament to the author ability

this book occupied my entire mind for the past week to the point that everyone i've spoken to knows about it & i think for that alone i could give it 5 stars. honestly i really loved the writing and i think nabokov is either a genius or a pedophile (for the sake of my well-being i'll choose to believe the former) okay that's all byeeee
