Not sure what to say about this book.. It's not like it's written badly, but this is just a huge disappointment after the high expectations set by Book Thief. Meh.

I liked it but it wasnt that interesting. Nothing really happened. It was like it was just the beginning of the book. Well it was the beginning of the series but still. I liked the relationship between Kameron and his brother. Overall, I liked it and will probably read the rest of the series.

Well it’s no Book Thief.

Also, very unfair treatment of mushrooms throughout.

So I'm marking this as a book read, since it's the one Markus Zusak I've never read, even though in this new book it is just the first part. Make sense? Oh, well if it doesn't. Anyway, this is the book that introduces us to Cameron and Ruben Wolfe, who go on to have more adventures in the other two books. I can tell this was his first book... let's just say he got better, much MUCH better! While I enjoyed the book and these crazy boys, there really wasn't much story to it. Just Cameron moping about a girl he likes and not really having the guts to do anything about it, and also he is worried about his family and the stresses they are facing.

This book was good. I love Markus Zusak and read it with pretty low expectations, knowing that it was his first novel. Markus Zusak's writing is very distinctive and I love that about his books. All the characters were likable. However, I generally don't like dream sequences (though I loved the one about the underdog) and there was one every other chapter. I also didn't particularly like Cameron's habit of mentioning something and then saying "you'll find out about that later..." But overall, I'm glad I read this book :)

I had high expectations for this book because I've read "I am the Messenger" and "Book Thief" by Zusak which are two of my favorite books. Underdog had absolutely no plot, however, I did see some points that had that beautiful Zusak writing that I saw in his other books. I understand this was his first book and I did enjoy it because of his beautiful writing, but I didn't LOVE it like his others because of the lack of plot. (I won't be continuing with the other two)

Ne zamandan beri ortalıkta amaçsızca dolaşıyordum?
Sokaklarda yürüyordum veya emekliyordum?
Birden anladım.
Yalnızdım.
Tek başımaydım.
İnkar etmenin anlamı yoktu.
Kesindi.

Her zaman mı?
Böyle mi?

Kitabın yazarı Markus Zusak değil, bir başkası olsaydı; mesela hiç tanımadığım biri, yeni bir kalem... Yine böyle sever miydim?

Emin değilim.

Ama beğendim. Beğendim!
