When a Boy Scout troop goes to an island for a camping trip but so many things go wrong…
This book is so good, it is similar to Lord of the Flies and it is really spooky at points. I think all these characters change in so many ways and I could not put this book down because of the suspense. I think it is shocking how all of them change throughout the book.

Oh boy, this book was a doozy for me. Aside from the obvious gruesome nature of the book and the detailed descriptions, I felt like some of the other horror elements in this book (see content warnings) weren’t at all necessary for the storyline. That all being said, I still enjoyed this book and thought about it a lot after finishing. I found myself more attached to the characters than I thought I would be (though there are obvious exceptions).  I thought the writing was great and engaging and it definitely left me unsettled and more emotional than anticipated. It was just a book that made me need a little break from horror after. I’ll say it again - check content warnings!

Man, this book is fucking gross. So disturbing sometimes. I grimaced through whole scenes, several times. However, I really enjoyed the writing and I burned through it in two sittings. I always advocate for more diverse characters and strong female characters, but given that this is about Boy Scouts and inspired by Lord of the Flies, the homogeneity isn't surprising. I give it a pass. Really taut storytelling, a horrifying threat, some heartbreaking scenes, and all the skin-crawling disgust you could ask for.

I buddy read this with a friend and I'm very glad that I did because I needed to talk about it with someone as I read certain parts of this book. We follow a group of boys and their scout leader as they face the horrors of someone showing up at their camp with some strange illness. The things that happen in the cabin and then in the woods are brutal and really make the kids do things that no one should ever have to do. Some of the kids try their best to act rationally while others... well, they choose to do things differently. I will not say much because this book should be experienced without knowing too much about what's happening.

I will start with I am not a horror fan, especially in movies. I get nightmares easily. :( ....now you're thin ing "why the eff did you read this?" Curiosity..okay.... everyone from booktok to bookstagram was name dropping this and I had to be in on it. I heard it was messed up and I didn't believe anyone.

I read What Moves the Dead and was pretty bored. I guess I wanted "more" from the spooky/horror category. Welp, this absolutely delivered.

My first reaction after putting it down was "...what the ever living duckaroni did I just read." and that I have to tell everyone about it. 1. The main....issue in this book is one of my irrational fears so that did not help. 2. Yes, it's strong teen boy energy because it's a boy scout troop, which is a little annoying but that's the point. Teen boys are annoying lol. Pretty stereotypical choices for each of the characters. 3. I adored the inserts of the court cases and observations. I love that stuff. I want backstory. I want a conclusion. I needed that evil.

This is just...wow, gross and graphic. I felt it started a little slow and then suddenly I couldn't put it down. According to my kindle, from around the 35% mark was when I just straight up binged this to completion in maybe a day.

I think I may have overkilled on the content warnings, but I felt that what I listed is touched up on (I didn't realize there were categories of content warnings until I made the list so I'm not editting it). This book made me gag and gasp in the ways it was supposed to..I think I may read another horror book, especially by Nick Cutter.

Not for the faint of heart, quite graphic.
A group of boy scouts get stranded on an island after a strange man wanders into their camp. Their scout leader, Tim, is the local doctor and tries to help the man.

Shelley might be my most hated character ever.
