I really  enjoyed this second installment, and once again Rosamund Pike excells.  However my main fear from reading the synopses of this  book series came to fruition when the women just seem to be falling after Rand for absolutely no reason! Min,  who is meant to be a strong independent woman, just falls  at his feet for  no apparent reason and loses respect of fellow characters and the  reader.  I also got extremely  frustrated by Rand's blindingly  falling for and  trusting  Selene, who was  so  obviously  dubious.
From a fantasy series  and  world  perspective  I continued to thoroughly enjoy the plot,  but I worry about the love side  stories and how much they will  affect  my opinion of the books...

I have to remind myself how much I loved the beginning of this book so I don't rate it lower. It started so strong with the cultiness and creepiness and the ritualistic murders and mysterious deserted villages. But man is the middle of this book a slog. I could not care less for the portal stones and Cairhien and most of the main characters are still annoying as f*ck. I found the ending good, but rather messy. Loial remains the best character closely followed by Hurin.
