Omg this book is SO GOOD!!! đ It reminded me a lot of Simon vs (which is a huge compliment coming from me) and I loved it so much!! The ace rep alone was incredible, like probably the best Iâve read in a YA book! It was an important part of who Wren is without it being a shameful thing for him! The romance was also top notch and had me invested from start to finish!! I did guess both âtwistsâ early on in the book but that didnât change how much I absolutely loved everything about it!
This was a wonderful book! SO much to love here. Rivalries turning into friendships? A mystery that spans the length of the book? (Who on earth is BB?) Asexual representation? Complex emotions and insecurities being explored?
It was hard to put this book down. It had me smiling, it had me laughing, and it had me emotional. I loved that the book explored complex topics -- grief, identity, fear and uncertainty as a teenager, and moving on with life in the aftermath of tragedy. Finding that people may understand you more than you expect.
I will admit that it took a while for me to enjoy Wren. He felt incredibly (perhaps overly) cynical at times, and that was hard to get behind. But when we got more character development for him, he won my heart over.
As I said above, the book has a lot to offer -- something for every reader. Most important, the asexual representation was fantastic. It had me thinking about this sexuality in ways that I've never thought of before. It's introspective, it's sympathetic, and it's genuine.
Amanda DeWitt has given us a very special book, and I would gladly read whatever she does next.

PERSONAL COMMENTS
Personally, I really enjoyed this book. Asexual representation isnât something that you see a lot in the media, so it makes me really happy that this book exists.
I also loved the characters.I liked the plot in general. Though some parts felt slow, it had enough going on that I didnât feel bored while reading this book.
CHARACTERS
In general, I thought the characters were represented well. I felt like the author could really write teenagers. I personally felt like I could relate to what Wren was feeling at certain points in the book. And I liked how the author represented Wrenâs grief. And how she addresses perfectly what it feels like to lose someone and how your world just changes.
I also thought Wrenâs character growth was well done. Though he is utterly oblivious and you know, a teenage boy, he is a great friend. And I also loved his chemistry with Leo! They are just so great together!
PLOT
To be fair, in terms of plot, I literally knew what was going to happen two to three chapters through. Itâs THAT type of book. But hey, if youâre picking a lighthearted read, this is probably what youâd expect.
Anyhow, though the plot is predictable, it makes up for it through Wrenâs characterization and his interactions with the other characters.
OTHER
First of all, I loved the representation of asexuality in this book. Asexual characters are pretty rare in literature. And itâs refreshing to see an accurate and positive depiction of an asexual character.
Second, I loved how the author incorporated the theme of âdifferent types of loveâ in this book. Although there IS a lot of romantic love present, there is also a big emphasis on friendship and familial love.
Finally, I loved how text messages are incorporated into the book and how the chapters all have funny titles, which is pretty cool.

This book surprised me quite a bit. At first Wren annoyed the crap out of me but then I begrudgingly began to like him?? He somehow softened my dark, cold heart? It's a fun love story and also loved the asexual rep which you don't see too often in YA.
I have this habit of picking up books with asexual protagonists out of a sense of obligation, and oftentimes I feel disappointed with how they're characterized. (No offense to Alice Oseman, but I never finished Loveless.) Wren Martin is an absolute breath of fresh air when it comes to YA protagonists. He's snarky, he's witty, he keeps chickens, and I loved being in his head. Very much worth it.
