This movie was an annual staple for me and my grandmother and in honor of watching Wicked, I decided to read the source material. And...I think the movie wonderfully trimmed this down. There were several scenes that just went on a little too long, extra characters that I didn't remember, and although I'll probably never reread again I'm glad I have my deluxe edition.

It was a good book, very much a children’s book. Felt necessary after reading wicked to go back and read the original text.

I read the whole series as a child and just finished this read aloud to my nine year old. It was a fantastic exercise in comparing a book story to a movie story. See how great and so much more interesting the book is than the movie??!!
