I really enjoyed it from beginning to end, I didn't want to put it down.
It is certainly one of the darker historical novels that I've read and it is not one of the more romantic tales of Tudor times.
Definitely worth a read.

I would have loved for this book to extend beyond the death of the king. KP had an interesting (and maybe scandalous) life after his death that I would have loved to read.
I am such a huge fan of these books but this one was so hard to get through it went on and on... and on.
I enjoyed reading this book - I'm an old lover of historical fiction glad to read a new novel. Philippa Gregory writes an engaging story (though as always, you question the historical accuracy) and it was good to hear more from the perspective of the 6th wife. It was interesting to make religion such a main motif in the book - I wonder if this hid some of the complexities of court, but was a decent read all the same.
I read this as a suggested book by goodreads to see what kinds of books they were recommending to me. I had no idea that it was a 4th book in a series dedicated to the Tudor line. It is a stand alone book and isn't a continuation of the previous books. It is about Catherine Parr the last wife of Henry the XII. The book explains the fear, strength, and life of a young woman who became a queen to a king who had already killed, divorced and got rid of 6 other wife's. She was the first English woman to publish under her own name. She was a devout religious woman who married the king while in love with someone else and it discusses AT LENGTH but it was a fair portion of understanding the drama of her life. I do not like bed scenes explicitly explained and the entire first chapter was full of them and subsequently about 5 other times. However, the book is well written and without that portion of details I did enjoy the book.

4.5 stars. As always, Gregory provides a very readable, entertaining history lesson wrapped in fiction. Who isn't fascinated by Henry VIII's court and all the drama and ambition it contained? This story, about his final wife's role in the reform of the church and her story of survival in the pit of vipers that was the Privy Council at that time, was very enjoyable.
