Mais uma vez Philippa Gregory não falha em entreter com os dramas da família Tudor.

I loved this. Catherine Parr was an amazing woman and Gregory's treatment of her is excellent.

The case of Kateryn Parr is intriguing. The sixth wife of a wife killer. Henry VIII was basically an a cruel, unpredictable and rather terrible person. He's painted here as being disgusting in more ways than one. How did Kateryn survive? Philippa Gregory paints an interesting and disturbing idea.

This series is amazing!

My absolute favorite historical fiction writer of all time. I love how she cites her sources, includes discussion guides, etc. It’s awesome being able to differentiate between historical events versus her artistic liberties thanks to her transparency as both a historian and a writer.

This is a man so sharp with pride that he cannot hear contradiction. This is a man who will play both sides at once to make sure he wins. This is a man who from a boy has never been refused. And, in addition to all of this - here is a man who cannot see himself as anything but perfect.
4.5 stars. This book was another reminder of why I adore Philippa Gregory's books. I immediately feel like I am transported to the time and place of the story. She is also able to write a complex character like Henry VIII so that I feel sympathy for him in one chapter and then despise him in the next. I've read all her books on the previous wives and I must say Katherine Parr is definitely my favorite - older and more balanced, she had the ability to make the best of a scary situation. I never realized that there was a warrant for her arrest and that she was able to get Henry to forgive her. I was really intrigued by the mentions of Will Sommers, the Kings fool, and will be reading [b:The Autobiography of Henry VIII: With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers|10108|The Autobiography of Henry VIII With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers|Margaret George|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1439956289s/10108.jpg|2505877] shortly because of this. As always very highly recommended.

Ahh Philippa, let me count the books of yours I love. It's no secret that Philippa Gregory is my favourite author (not one of my favourites, not my current favourite, THE favourite).

This is the last in her Tudor Court series telling the story of Kateryn Parr, Henry VIII's sixth and final wife. The other novels in this series are:
The Constant Princess - Katherine of Aragon, Henry's first wife.
The Other Boleyn Girl - Made into a film starring Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson telling the story of Anne Boleyn.
The Boleyn Inheritance - Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleaves and Katherine Howard.

Then comes this one.

I have also enjoyed The Cousin's War series which is spans 1430 to 1499 (Henry's Grandparents and parents) part of which was made into a TV series The White Queen (which covers the book of the same name, The Red Queen and The Kingmaker's Daughter).

Anyway, I should probably talk about this book. Kateryn Parr was a very enigmatic character. She married an ageing King who had divorced two wives and beheaded two more. She must have feared for her life when she accepted his offer of marriage (which she couldn't refuse). Yet she set about bringing Henry's three children together, educated Elizabeth (daughter of Anne Boleyn who grows up to be Elizabeth I), published books under her own name (possibly becoming the first woman in England to do so). Plus she was at the fore-front of religious reform, trying to take the Church of England away from it's Catholic roots and into a more modern form of worship (more about God and less about paying priests for absolving sins and getting into heaven).

Can you tell I loved this book?

I love that Philippa Gregory tells history from a woman's perspective. Very little is known about each of her heroines, so as well as sticking to the historical truth, Philippa must use her imagination to fill in the blanks. To be honest, when reading any of her novels, it's difficult to see the joins between fact and fiction.

Suffice to say, I highly recommend this book (and any of Philippa's books).

I found this installment of the series to be an interesting  change. This queen had different circumstances than any before her and I think the author does a great job of expressing her uniqueness. I think it would be easy to just sweep her away as just one more wife but here we learn about her unique accomplishments and what makes her special.

good book, one of my favorite out of the Plantagenets series. the way Kateryn is written is very well done, as with many of the other characters.
