I really like this book. The narrative voice is clear and believable and all of the characters are interesting and very well developed in a fairly short time. The historical bits feel real and unforced as elements of the story, and there is a realism to the book that is very enjoyable.

I loved this book, absolutely loved it. I don't give anything five stars unless I can read it again, and again. It's funny, interesting, and a quick read. Three things I love in books. The grandma is hysterical and my favorite part is when the kids realize she's not the best influence on them.

I cried at the end.

Decided to take a break from Newbery winners this month to go back and read this. I knew it would be full of chuckles, given the characters.

Borrowed from Hamilton Library at Franklin College.

I love these books even though they are supposed to be for kids.

I just finished this book again as a read-aloud to my family. This book is written to be read aloud. It was hilarious and my kids begged each night to get their chapter read. Each chapter is a story in itself. I HIGHLY recommend this book.

I adore this book! Great read aloud, as kids will need help getting humor and old-time references. Would read again and again for the laughs.

honestly this just wasn't my cup of tea. I read this blindly / without reading the blurb, and to be honest I don't think I would've picked it up had I read the summary.
