This fantasy had such a nostalgic feel to it. Lightlark was such a refreshing read and the premise was executed beautifully. I was warned about the plot twists but I definitely did not see them coming. All in all I don’t think this book deserves any of the hate it’s getting and I highly recommend this read.

Decent magical idea, ridiculous forced love story and obnoxious, unimaginable ending. The entire relationship with Grim is one of the most forced things I’ve ever read, and I’ve read a LOT of fan fiction.

And the ending where they magically have known each other for years and been in love forever? Also moronic! A forced love triangle and the awful betrayal of her friend are pretty much what killed this book

**4.25 stars** honestly not a bad book! the 1st 250ish pages, although, were a slight pain for me to get through tbh. i’m glad i hung in there because the drama that ensued after i got halfway through was jaw dropping & cry worthy. i love oro!!!!!! thankful for isla’s slight character development or else this would’ve been rated way worse…second book please!

I got this book because of tiktok but here’s my honest review.

Was it the worst book? No. Not the worst but not the best either.

The pros are; Lovely characters (at the beginning) as well as a cool plot that I was thoroughly excited to read about. I also love the imagery about the realms.

My cons for the book are as follows

-Loss of character depth. I loved Azul, but he got lost along the way and his development stopped after the first few chapters. I also felt that Grim started developed and then became just the love interest and had no other part. Oro eventually became that as well. Celeste also randomly disappeared then came back but oh well.

-Generic main character. This is similar to the last con but Isla needs her own paragraph. She started off as being super cool and unique by showing physical strength instead of powers. But the whole plot of her being nightshade and wildling sucked. It felt disappointing and I almost wish she just had the wildling powers at that point. After becoming all powerful she lost all unique qualities.

-Disappointing plot twist. Engaging? Yes but dissatisfying. I liked the Celeste betrayal (even though i saw it coming) however I HATED the whole Grim and Isla situation. Like I felt it didn’t need to be there at all and it just pissed me off as well as made little sense to the plot.

-I hate this type of love triangle. It just caused the book to turn away from the interesting plot and towards the romance when I actually enjoyed the plot and the way the game was going. The romance began to cloud over the storyline and in result the story fell short.

-Delivery of the information and fight scenes. The intense scenes were very blunt and short and kind of hard to imagine. And also I felt that some scenes solely existed for the information. Like that one scene of Oro and Isla in the cave… It didn’t need to exist.

I had decent fun but safe to say I won’t be reading Nightbane.
