This was good, but not good the way her other books have been for me so far. It feels like a first effort, like her style wasn’t quite yet where it would be. Or maybe I just identified less with these characters, I’m not sure! Either way, fine and good but not my favorite.

her first? I pretty much read last! I will say with the almost 2 decades under her belt I see the maturity in her story crafting now but also see that her voice has not changed much in all these years and you know you will get a very enjoyable read with good character development and an exciting story with satisfying resolutions!

I was excited to read her first book after reading so many of her newer releases. I definitely prefer her newer books, and it seems as though her writing has matured and definitely found her voice. This was a lovely glimpse at life in Nantucket and some of the characters that we see in her later stories, but the ending felt so abrupt and unresolved for me. Of course, it won't stop me from reading more...

So, I wanted to go to the beginning of Elin Hilderbrand's writing career. This was the first one. It was before she made each chapter from a different POV. It was definitely the same writing style with a little less "edge." It's a story of a Nantucket Beach Club...which looks like it exists. The proprietors are getting older and rely heavily on Mack, an enjoyable character with a lot of charisma but some lingering issues in his personal life. Hilderbrand's characters are believable (but only in a novel) and flawed. I am taken along for the ride, and I have enjoyed almost every book. I found out Hilderbrand plans to be a book influencer starting 2024, so only 3 more new books to go.

I am going to slowly work through all of her books. They are more fun to read in the summer. It makes me want to go to Nantucket.
